“It’s Still Not Me, It’s You” is a solo exhibition by Amanda Grae Platner. Through painting and performance, the show delivers the spectacle of a full self and asks viewers to participate in a reciprocal relationship that lets go of their false assumptions.
“What motivates my actions differs from what motivates yours. As a person living with multiple sclerosis, I experience firsthand how superficial labels and false assumptions surrounding my actions prevent me from being accurately perceived. These experiences have heightened my awareness of preconceived notions and how they prevent us from seeing each other as complex beings navigating the world in our own unique ways. Although MS is the main impetus for my observations, I’m actually investigating empathy through my studio practice. The lack of empathy can lead to isolation, weak relationships, and the inability to explore the world fully. Those who lack empathy lack the ability to acknowledge perspectives outside of their own experiences.” — Amanda Grae Platner
