CRITIC’S PICK: Head Canon, From the Earth Brewing Company. “Headcanon” is a term that refers to fan imaginings of fictional characters past beyond what’s written on page or screen, or, in this case music. It’s the rest of the story – or at least so far as we can envision it. Frank Zappa and David Bowie (at least in his Ziggy Stardust phase) employed headcanon techique by creating parodic caricatures of political or other social phenomena to make you question the status quo. So what does that have to do with a band to see this month? Well, Head Canon, the Atlanta band, does something similar, all while embellishing messages of possibility with Phishy jams, idiosyncratic rock flourishes, and sweet guitar solos.
