Spring Exhibits at Gallery Anderson Smith (sundays)

Opened Sat., May 3 - CRITIC’S PICK: Vando Davis: Still Outside The Box, Gallery Anderson Smith - Neo-expressionist Vando Davis didn’t get around to becoming an artist until he was 49. Prior to that, he was a music studio engineer and a chef, but he has made up for lost time with a prolific output since 2017. Anderson Smith has promoted and displayed his work since the gallery’s inception.
Davis’ paintings have a charming, cartoonish innocence to them, using dynamic colors that are often in conflict, accompanied by an array of adroit text. “What fills me with pride on this artistic adventure is the opportunity to give back to children by sharing the joy of art with them,” he says. — Kevin C. Madigan
Opened Sat., Mar. 15 - CRITIC’S PICK: Taylor B. Douglass: A Dose of Earth, Exploring Healing and Connection in the Natural World, Gallery Anderson Smith - “Spending time in nature is my medicine, offering sanctuary in life’s moments of strife,” says Taylor B. Douglass, an abstract expressionist from Houston who lives and works in Atlanta. “My current mixed media works are a heartfelt exploration of this - mindfulness and healing through earthing and connecting with the Source. Each piece captures intimate moments of reflection and grounding, inspired by my personal experiences outdoors.”Douglass’ work has been displayed at the State Capitol of Georgia; the ‘Matter is the Minimum’ mural in Grove Park; the Ali at Lakewood ‘Creation, Community, Family, Self’ mural; the Midtown Heart of the Arts Banner exhibition; and on a digital billboard at Reverb Hotel in Castleberry Hill, among other prominent places. The exhibition opens at Anderson Smith in Buckhead on Saturday, March 15 with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. - Kevin C. Madigan

Vando’s fun-loving nature is seen in every colorful stroke.Since becoming a full-time artist, Vando exhibited at Spectrum Miami 2018, where he was selected to the Director’s List. In 2019, he was selected as a “Featured Artist” for Hot Works Estero Fine Art Show.Vando lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife Sheri, two cats and pup Pepper.
