RALPH SCOTT has spent the better part of 30 years promoting and supporting independent films as Program Director and Co-Founder of Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) also, Co-Founder of Visual AIDS: A cinematic look at the HIV/AIDS epidemic; film festivals as well as Executive Produced many nationally broadcast film showcases. All broadcasts were film showcases and aired on outlets such as BET, BETJ, and Aspire TV.
His short film Barbasol, a father and son story that touches on Dementia, is being used to open up discussions about mental health as well as the father and son dynamic. He has developed a company that shines a cinematic light on social, political, and civil rights issues, “Social Cinema”. He now has turned his sights on educating youth in the media arts and special education.
Ralph has been very instrumental in the promotion and exhibition of non-stereotypical African-American images. He has taken it on as his mission to exploit filmmakers who have a very non “Hollywood” approach to Black life on film. So much so, that he even has a worldwide Facebook group of Black Filmmakers to unify their strength further. Most recently he has curated socially conscience film screenings at the Congressional Black Caucus and the Smithsonian African American Museum.
A West Virginia State College graduate, Mr. Scott began his film career working alongside Haile Gerima at Howard University on his world-renowned film “Sankofa”. After moving back to Los Angeles, he lent his talents to Steven Spielberg’s production of “Amistad” as the Head Researcher for visual development. He was also a researcher for the Motown 40 documentary and the film nominee coordinator for the NAACP Image Awards. All the while working towards building a better audience for independent Black Film and filmmakers. After being suggested that he become a talent agent, Ralph went on to become an assistant to the Vice President of Motion Picture Business Affairs at the William Morris Agency. This is where he gained much of his inside knowledge of the industry. Now living in southern Virginia, teaching students with special needs; he is loved by his wife Jocelyn and daughter Carter Alexandria.
