CRITIC’S PICK: Ronnie Baker Brooks, City Winery—“Blues in my DNA” sings Brooks on the title track of his new album, and that’s as good a summation of his status of the son of late blues icon Lonnie Brooks as you’ll get from any bio. He was in his dad’s band for a while, but after his dad passed has been solo since 1998. He leans more towards soul and funk than his father, but pulls out some serious blues licks too. His current release on Alligator (also his dad’s label) is sure to get more exposure and airplay than his previous four simply due to better promotion but it’s also his most polished and gutsy set. — Hal Horowitz
