Johnson Lowe Gallery Fall Exhibits (saturdays)

CRITIC’S PICK:
Fri., Oct. 10 - Sun., Feb. 8
Fashion Statements: Viktor & Rolf, High Museum — This duo of Dutch fashion designers brags that the likes of Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Tilda Swinton wear their “sublime” clothing. The first major retrospective in the US of their work is organized by curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot and the Kunsthalle Munich in Germany. The show “demonstrates how wearable art is among the most provocative and inventive forms of contemporary design,” says the High’s Director Rand Suffolk. The works on display are enhanced by projected images specifically designed for the exhibition by Rodeo FX, the visual effects studio known for its work on ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’ “The singular and enchanted vision of Viktor and Rolf’s work offers a unique dialogue between art and fashion,” Loriot says. — Kevin C. Voyager
Todd Murphy
26 September - 29 November 2025
Johnson Lowe Gallery is pleased to present Voyager, its second solo exhibition of works by the late American artist Todd Murphy (1962–2022). On view from September 26 through November 29, 2025, this exhibition proposes an encounter between image and environment, memory and myth, object and invocation. The exhibition draws from Murphy’s deep engagement with the natural world as an animated force: stage, initiator, and oracle. It offers an experience of nature as sacred and unknowable—sublime, austere, and glistening with memory—where materials speak, and images function as maps of survival.

26 September - 29 November 2025
Johnson Lowe Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its fall group exhibition, Encounters on view from September 26 to November 29. What does it mean to stand before an image in a society that conditions us to skim, swipe, react and move on? Encounters resists the lure of passive observation, gathering film, photography, sculpture, painting and installations that interrupt the flattened cycles of contemporary looking. These works demand presence. Here, the creative act generates an encounter in its fullest sense: something to be met, something to be reckoned with.
