Chuck Ragan

CRITIC’S PICK
Wed., April 2
Chuck Ragan, City Winery—Ex-Hot Water Music frontman Ragan’s solo output shifts focus away from his post-hardcore band to an Americana singer/songwriter stance. The music is organic and natural with sandpapery vocals that connect to material which feels rootsy and real, especially on the Celtic-inspired “Nomad by Fate,” his most streamed composition. He has been releasing albums under his own name for nearly two decades but the latest, Lore & Love, is one of his finest and most aggressive. Imagine a combination of Drive-By Truckers with James McMurtry and Petty’s Heartbreakers to get a sense of Ragan’s raw, earnest approach. — Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
City Winery Atlanta presents Chuck Ragan with Special Guest Nate Bergman live on Wednesday, April 2 at 8pm!
In a musical life that spans close to three decades, Chuck Ragan has consistently worn his heart on his sleeve, and carved out a musical niche in the process. First with post-hardcore trailblazers Hot Water Music and subsequently on his own, he’s built a large and singularly powerful body of work whose honesty, immediacy and warmth have won the loyalty of a fiercely devoted international fan base that’s supported him through his various musical incarnations. In 2005, feeling the urge to stretch out creatively, Ragan ventured into a more acoustic approach. He enthusiastically embraced his new status as solo troubadour, exploring an expanded palette of acoustic and electric textures on the acclaimed albums Feast or Famine, Gold Country, Covering Ground, Till Midnight and The Flame In The Flood.
