Durand Jones & the Indications, The Psycodelics, Variety Playhouse — It’s “The Flowers Tour,” named after the title of this retro-soul outfit’s recent release. Even though Aaron Frazer’s name is not in the band’s moniker, it’s his drumming and co-lead vocals with Jones that gives the group such a unique sound. Think Philly International or Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson at their quiet storm best for the generally low-key, satin sheet approach. There is also some neo-disco, but it’s wrapped in romance and cloaked in soulful sincerity. The openers, who traverse similar R&B territory, are as non-psychedelic as you can get but make for a terrific double-bill of old-fashioned soul. — Hal Horowitz
