Spirits of the South: A Dialogue on Art, Ancestors, and TraditionA Conversation between Najee Dorsey, Dr. Ifetayo Ojelade, and Dr. Sam Livingston

Saturday, May 31st  1- 3:00 PM | Black Art In America Gallery | East Point, GA

Join us for a powerful evening of art, dialogue, and ancestral remembrance as acclaimed visual artist Najee Dorsey sits down with spiritualist and psychotherapist, Dr. Ifetayo Ojeladé and professor of African American Studies at Morehouse University Dr. Sam Livingston, for a timely conversation on the crossroads—where African tradition, Southern folklore, and contemporary Black Art converge.

In light of renewed cultural interest sparked by the film Sinners, this event moves beyond the cinematic trend to honor what has always been present: the deep-rooted spiritual legacy of the South. Through Dorsey’s evocative mixed-media works—rich with culture, southern legends, and stories untold — we gain access to a world where folklore is not fiction. It is a cultural record.

Ifetayo Ojeladé, psychologist, Ifa initiate and founder of A Healing Paradigm, brings her insight into the spiritual and psychological significance of these subjects. Dr. Ojelade, Dr. Livingston, and Najee Dorsey  will explore how Dorsey’s imagery reflects southern history and folklore, the lived  Black experience, and how the Black South continues to serve as a cultural bridge back to West African traditions.

Come gather  at the crossroads with Black Art In America.
