The Steve Morse Band, Variety Playhouse — Prog/hard-rocking guitar whiz Morse got his start with the jazz/country twanging Dixie Dregs. He then moved on to a wildly diverse and successful career as axe-man extraordinaire for Kansas, Deep Purple and more recently the supergroup Flying Colors along with fronting his own band. The latest incarnation of that trio displays Morse’s astounding, often frantic, fret shredding and might even include some acoustic musings from his Angelfire side project. This is a must for all guitar students and those who just enjoy watching jaw-dropping, master level six-string work. — Hal Horowitz
