SPLC’s Lecia Brooks, SPLC Interim Chief of Staff facilitates a conversation with filmmakers C.J. Hunt and Giona Jefferson to explore the role of film in bringing liberation to life.
Keynote Presentation | Dr Bettina L. Love, 3:30 p.m.
Dr. Bettina Love traces the unwavering pursuit of education by Black people as a central strategy for liberation — and the violent white backlash that has consistently met this pursuit. Dr. Love will explore key moments in educational policy before and after Brown v. Board of Education, highlighting how Black communities have always seen education as a pathway to freedom. She will connect historical struggles to today’s educational landscape, marked by the erasure and criminalization of Black people, and will conclude with practical, justice-centered solutions for transforming education in our time.
Belonging Beyond Brown, 7 p.m.
Belonging Beyond Brown explores the emotional stories of displacement, resilience, and the enduring quest for justice experienced by Black educators and students before and after the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling.
