Dowdy Girl Beach Ball Extravaganza Rowdy Dowdy, an inconspicuous house in southwest Atlanta, claims to host the weirdest and wackiest dance parties in the city. For the Fourth, it’ll bring the party outside with some poolside patriotism. The theme of the day is Beachy and Bitchy, so dress accordingly. Look out for the Wet Drag Queen Contest and the Dowdy Girl fashion show. Music performances include Michael Myerz, Twin Studies and more. Free-$5. 5 p.m. Tues., July 4. Rowdy Dowdy, 1300 Sylvan Road S.W. www.facebook.com/rowdyatdowdy.
Fourth of July Celebration The pop of Fourth of July fireworks get even louder this year at the Southeast’s largest fireworks show. Lenox Square and Centennial Olympic Park are combining their efforts for the first time this year. As Lenox shifts its focus to daytime activities, starting with the Peachtree Road Race, it’ll lend financial support to Centennial. The musical lineup includes Bobby Brown, Ann Nesby, CeCe Peniston, Algebra Besset, Chelsea Shag and more. With only one major firework extravaganza this year, it’ll be bigger and better than ever. Spots are sure to fill quickly, so go ahead and nab one at dawn. Free-$5. 6 p.m. Tues., July 4. Centennial Olympic Park, 265 Park Ave. West N.W. www.centennialpark.com.
Atlanta United FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes Celebrate both American patriotism and Atlanta pride by going to an Atlanta United FC game. The team takes on the San Jose Earthquakes in the Georgia Tech stadium. Bobby Dodd Stadium, 150 Bobby Dodd Way. www.atlutd.com.
Peachtree Road Race A roundup of July 4th events would be incomplete without mention of the Peachtree Road Race. The staple event of the Atlanta running scene brings in more than 60,000 people a year, making it the biggest 10K in the world. If you aren’t up for the heat, hills and humidity make a sign and camp out on a sidewalk to cheer on everyone else. The runners love grabbing goodies from the sidelines, beer included. $35-$40. 7:30 a.m. Tues., July 4. Lenox Square, 3393 Peachtree Road N.E. www.atlantatrackclub.org.
A Benefit for the IRC Even though President Trump’s explicitly discriminatory travel ban continues to be thwarted in court, it has still spread waves of animosity against refugees. Such a xenophobic political climate makes organizations like the International Rescue Committee (IRC) all the more crucial. Some of Atlanta’s punk luminaries are combining forces to raise money for the IRC in solidarity with its mission to provide essential services to refugees. The lineup features an array of talent representing the breadth of Atlanta punk, from Fishmonger’s bare-knuckles thrashing to Shepherds’ soulful dissonance. All proceeds will be donated directly to the IRC. With Fishmonger, U.S. Drag, Casual Tiger, Cashmere, Trashcan. $7. 9 p.m. Tues., July 4. 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave S.E. 404-228-6769. www.529atlanta.com.
