Midtown nightclub MJQ CONCOURSE is the perennial favorite in this category because there’s no place more dependable on a weekend night. Each week hundreds of people go for the swirling disco lights, hot guys and girls, large dance floor, and music that’s commercially palatable without hitting the lowest common denominator. A roster of capable resident DJs, special theme nights such as the “Saturday Party Sneak Attack,” and such out-of-town DJ stars as Flosstradamus and Girl Talk add to the unpredictable fun. less...

The predictably unpredictable nature of MJQ CONCOURSE keeps crowds rolling in. In theory, a “best dance club” has a huge dancefloor, but MJQ has a packed dancefloor, which is much more fun. Clubs don’t often age gracefully — in fact, most are lucky if they make it through the first year. But not MJQ. Between its regularly scheduled programming of Brit pop, hip-hop, reggae and rare grooves, the club manages to throw in weird theme nights like lingerie parties, blood wrestling, homecoming events and cowboys vs. ninjas (we can’t explain if you weren’t there). Plus, it books the hippest-of-the-hip DJs. No matter what the entertainment, though, a night at the Q, is almost always a damn good time. less...

Imagine hailing a gypsy cab on New York’s Lower East Side. Inside, the decorations are Bangladeshi-meets-Brooklyn and the cabby raps to Jay-Z in Bengali. And as the cab gets its swerve on, your body dances involuntarily. The DJANGO GYPSY KITCHEN AND SALOON’s bohemian burrow recalls that ride, where disparate cultures fuse sweat-drenched momentum into one undeniably funky juggernaut. Whether looking for hip-hop, drum ’n’ bass, flamenco, deep house, rare groove, soca, Afro-Cuban jazz or just a medley of people getting dirty and flirty in a post-modern Mediterranean/Latin/North African environment, Django offers a tight space under an even tighter groove. less...

Located in the little big house on 12th Street, Nomenclature just turned 3 and shows no signs of getting old. Nomenclature gets Best Dance Club not for offering a lot of space, but for offering a lot of options within a space. Some of the city's best house DJs, a strong sound system and ever-changing props contribute to Nomenclature's intimate house-party vibe. And there's always a corner in which to make up and/or make out. less...

Backstreet is Atlanta's members-only club open to everyone, provided you have an open mind. There's no guarantee it will have an open dance floor, though. It may have one of the largest, colorful, gay and straight floors in the city, but on the weekend, especially among the late-night crowd, it's pretty packed. But there's sure to be someone willing to share their space, which is part of the charm. Plus, it's probably the only place where it's acceptable, almost expected, that you enter at night and emerge bewildered in the daylight. less...
