Macy Gray seemed to be the next-big-thing after releasing her 1999 Grammy-winning debut, On How Life Is (Epic). Unconditional fame has eluded here, but Gray has continued expanding her repertoire to include acting, landing a spot on “Dancing with the Stars,” and recording several albums of original music, along with a catalog of eclectic covers including songs by Radiohead, Arcade Fire, and a song-by-song reinterpretation of Stevie Wonder’s hits, titled Talking Book. Tonight (Tues., July 19), Gray’s diverse approach culminates in a smooth mix of pop, funk, soul, and R&B rolled into her scratchy voice and sassy stage presence.
