Art School Jocks unveil first demo recording, 'Nina'
Scene vets reconvene to offer up their first recording for an upcoming Ecology Records tape comp.
Art School Jocks, a new foursome featuring scene vets Deborah Hudson (Places to Hide), Camille Lindsley (Savant), Dianna Settles (the Wild), and new comer Ali Bragg, offer up “Nina,” their first recording for an upcoming tape compilation on new label Ecology Records. Up until this point, they've booked shows purely based on the strength of relationships they've built in Atlanta over the years, and the good faith of friends, a faith that “Nina” rewards. It's a lo-fi affair — their IG page features a picture of an easel, masking tape, and a wav recorder as their studio setup. Pulsing drums push through the haze of murky vocals and no wave guitar lines, giving the dance side of the brain and the Steve Albini side a song to agree on. It harkens to a sound Lindsley describes as “154-era Wire with the attitude of Lush.” As a first demo, it holds a lot of promise of things to come. Press play below.
Art School Jocks open for Rope, Mutual Jerk, and US Weekly at Ervs House. Sat., June 4. Donations. 9 p.m. Ask/Text/DM a punk for directions!
