Various artists: Keb Darge and Paul Weller Present Lost and Found: Real R'n'B and Soul
The collection showcases lesser-known blues, rock 'n' roll and R&B songs and acts from the '50s and early '60s
The blues, rock 'n' roll, and R&B of the '50s and early '60s provided the foundation on which the next 60 years of popular music was built. The collection Keb Darge & Paul Weller Present Lost & Found: Real R'n'B & Soul showcases some of the era's lesser-known songs and acts. As the names suggests, classic soul DJ Keb Darge and Brit-rock icon and former Jam and Style Council frontman Paul Weller compiled the selections. Lost gems from Northern soul acts such as the Epitome of Sound and the Brothers of Soul, as well as obscurities such as blues legend Albert King's "Crosscut Saw" and "Honey Child" from Bobby Bland sit perfectly alongside each another. The track listing isn't chronological, however, which can be a bit jarring and robs the listener of reliving the R&B/soul evolution. But that's a small criticism for a collection including so many forgotten masterpieces from a wealth of brilliant artists. (BBE) 4 out of 5 stars.
