The Blotter October 09 2003
A man on Lakeshore Drive received a threatening call on his cell phone. The caller murmured in a deep voice, and his speech wasn't always clear. But the man was able to discern the following statements. "I am here ... nightmares... give me a chance ... tied up now in my basement ... rock and chains and handcuffs ... I'll get you one day soon. I know everything about you. It is coming; look over your shoulder." The man didn't recognize the caller's voice, but said he would prosecute the caller to the fullest extent of the law.
At 10:35 a.m., an officer was patrolling Oakland Drive. He saw a 30-year-old woman who looked drunk. The officer asked her for ID. She had none. She smelled of booze, as did the clear bottle from which she was drinking. As the officer was getting information from her, she said, "Hang on, and don't look. I've got to put my panties on." With that, she pulled a pair of black underwear from her purse, lifted her skirt above her waist, and put on the panties. During this act, she exposed herself to two officers and two citizens. She was arrested for public indecency and public drinking. The woman wore a black shirt, a black-and-gray skirt, and white house slippers.
An undercover vice detective was driving at the intersection of 7th and Peachtree streets in Midtown. A 37-year-old bald man got into the officer's car and offered to give him a blowjob in exchange for $10, a hamburger and a pack of cigarettes. The man was promptly arrested.
A man who owns a construction company said he went to the bank and withdrew $10,402.75 in cash. According to the police report, the man "stated during the time he left the bank and arrived home (which is approximately one minute away), he realized the $10,402.75 was lost." The man went back to the bank and couldn't find the money. Nothing further.
A 39-year-old man was walking down Simpson Road when a stranger asked him to cut his hair. The 39-year-old said he couldn't cut the stranger's hair because he was on his way to church. The strange man got upset and hit the 39-year-old in the face with a beer bottle. The 39-year-old, who told police that everyone in the neighborhood knows he cuts hair, was taken to Crawford Long Hospital with minor injuries.
A 79-year-old woman was approached by two men outside her home on Holmes Street. The men offered to spray her roof with a special chemical that would make the roof last 25 years. They said they could do this for $4,000. The woman said she couldn't afford that. So the two men negotiated a price of $530. About 30 minutes later, they asked to be paid. The woman asked, "How did you spray the roof without a ladder?" She also asked, "How did you spray the roof without my hearing you working?" The men said they had a special sprayer on the back of the truck that allowed them to spray it from the street silently. She kept asking questions, and the men got irritated and said they needed the cash now — they couldn't take a check. The woman later said she had a feeling she was being scammed, but felt intimidated. So she went to the bank and cashed a check. They followed her to the bank and took the $530 cash. A police officer noted, "It didn't appear as if any kind of work had been done to [the woman's] roof to me." A neighbor said she saw the same two men going to the homes of elderly people.
An officer was driving on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard when he saw a man dart into traffic. The officer stopped the man. "The mirror told me to cut the officers," said the man, who was clutching a piece of mirror with sharp edges. The officer told the man four times to drop the mirror. On the fourth time, the man dropped the mirror. He was arrested and taken to Grady Hospital. The man couldn't provide his name or address, so he was checked in as John Doe.
Two landlords conducted an exterior check of an apartment complex on Ladawn Lane. On the back porch of an apartment, they saw what appeared to be a marijuana plant growing in a flowerpot. The plant was about a foot-and-a-half tall. They called police. The officers spoke with a 67-year-old woman who lives in the apartment. Police asked her what type of plant it was. She said she didn't know, but she planted the seeds she bought at Family Dollar, and that's what grew. Police asked her if anyone else lived there. She said her grandchildren lived with her, but they were at college right now. Police asked her if they could take the plant to be analyzed. She said she didn't care as long as they left her flowerpot with her. The plant was pulled and taken to be analyzed.
An undercover officer was driving along Charles Allen Avenue when he saw a woman with black-and-red curly hair. The woman asked if he was "partying." "Yes," the officer said. The woman got in the car and said, "I'll suck your dick and let you eat my pussy for $40." The woman was taken to a police station on Ponce de Leon Avenue, where she was arrested and "determined to be a male." The female impersonator wore a white T-shirt, jeans and sandals.
On Murphy Avenue, a 43-year-old man told police that he drank three bottles of Robitussin. He said he was trying to get "an effect." He was taken to a hospital.
