Atlanta-based South African artist Erika Hibbert stops by and discusses and showcases her newest exhibit, RECIPROCITY, at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center Gallery Thurs., March 31, from 7-9 p.m. RECIPROCITY, Hibbert’s 15th solo show, features selected works from her 2015 ink painting series, http://erikahibbert.com/section/401238-Ink-Paintings-2015.htmlThe Kiss, her 2015 wood painting series, A Thin Veneer, and her unique 2012-13 series, Doll Canvases.
RECIPROCITY is on display thru June 24.

›› Actor and playwright Frank Blocker brings his highly acclaimed comedic play, Southern Gothic Novel, to the Village Center Fri., April 1, at 7 p.m., for a one-night fundraiser benefitting South Metro Village. Directed by Cheryl King, and set in the fictitious city of Aberdeen, Mississippi, the city’s assistant librarian falls in love with the new man in town, and things get even more interesting when local, young women start disappearing. Blocker plays 17 different characters in the play, which originally debuted in the 2003 New York International Fringe Festival.

›› The Atlanta Opera presents the sixth annual 24-Hour Opera Project, as five randomly picked teams of lyricists, composers, stage directors, singers, and accompanists put together a live opera performance in less than 24 hours, with the showcase event set for Sat., April 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the ScadShow in Midtown. Starting Fri., April 1, teams of composers and lyricists from across the country write an opera in 12 hours, based on a single, randomly drawn line from one of Shakespeare’s poems or plays. The compositions are given to the stage directors who have 12 hours to present their operas. A panel of local judges pick the winner, and the audiences vote for the Audience Choice Award. ImprOper, a collaborative Atlanta-based group of singers and comedians from the Atlanta Opera and Dad’s Garage, performs during intermission.
