Blluemade champions high-quality linen looks
A writer and professor duo teamed up with Factory Girls Atlanta to launch a locally-made line.
This week, married couple Lilly Lampe, an arts writer, and Alex Robins, a philosophy teacher at Emory, launch their fashion line Blluemade, a brand of linen style essentials (this collection is actually dubbed Staples No. 1) for women (men’s shirts are slated to come this summer). The idea behind the line came from the couple’s summers spent traveling, often to hot and humid locales, some of which required a modest look that was also breathable and chic. “We’re always traveling in the hottest months of the year,” Lampe says. “I think we kind of struggled with how to be adequately prepared for the extreme temperatures.” This past summer, in anticipation of their trip to Southeast Asia, she began sewing a handful of linen smocks to wear, collaborating with Robins on style and cut. “His ideas were always really left-field and amazing,” she says, “like a pocket that goes across the torso shaped like a crescent moon, and they would kind of take me aback. But then I would try it out and would always find them to be the perfect element to finish the design.” It was during those summer travels that more ideas began brewing, a domain was purchased, and plans were set into motion to launch their own line.
While grand plans for Blluemade include adding men’s separates as well as kidswear and babywear, using high-quality linen (which is sourced from Belgium and is then manufactured here in ATL) has and likely always will be at the center of the brand’s mission. “The more we learned about linen, the more excited we got about it,” Robins says. “It’s a very ancient fabric that’s temperature-regulating and easy to travel with, and those functional things are really great.” While they’re in talks with a slew of vendors and boutiques, pieces can be bought directly from their websitehttps://blluemade.myshopify.com/ as of this week.
