Quick Bites: Sivas Express replaces Metro Grill, Revival's beer garden gets a name, and more

Tickets are on sale for Wholesome Wave Georgia’s inaugural Picnic in the Park. The fundraiser will be held on Sun., May 22 in Historic Fourth Ward Park. Guests will purchase picnic baskets prepared by Atlanta's chefs, including Terry Koval, Drew Belline, and Todd Ginsberg. Proceeds go toward Wholesome Wave Georgia’s mission, which doubles federal nutrition assistance dollars at local farmers markets.

Kemal Karsli, owner of The Sivas in midtown, is opening a new concept called Sivas Express at 19 Hurt Plaza in the former Metro Grill Diner space. Sivas Express will feature “create-your-own, quick service” Mediterranean fare as well as milkshakes, smoothies, and espresso drinks.

Local hot dog fave Doggy Dogg has set up service at Joystick Gamebar, replacing chef Joey Zelinka’s Junk Food, for "the duration of the next year." HOTDOGGYRO will dish out steak and tofu kebabs and Spotted Trotter jerky along with their standard 404 dog.

The ATL has several nominees for the 2016 James Beard Foundation awards. Steven Satterfield’s first cookbook, “Root to Leaf,” was nominated for photography, and The Bitter Southerner nabbed two nominations with Shane Mitchell’s “Kiss My Grits” (Food and Culture) and Wendell Brock’s profile of a fellow Atlanta foodie, “Christiane Lauterbach: The Woman Who Ate Atlanta.” ICYMI, Best Chef: Southeast nominees Steven Satterfield and Kevin Gillespie and Best New Restaurant contender Staplehouse are also in the running for 2016 James Beard awards. 

A Revival rep confirmed to Eater that the name of the beer garden at Kevin Gillespie’s Decatur hotspot is “Communion.” The rep also said, “it is really close to opening.” Is it that close?

Because just one won’t do, chef Mihoko Obunai will host two pop-ups previewing her highly anticipated ramen resto. In addition to the original event on Mon., March 23 event at The Spence, Obunai will hold another event on Mon., April 11 at Parish. Both dinners will start at 6 p.m. and last until the ramen runs out.

Novo Cucina will host a benefit for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society from 4 to 10 p.m. on Tues., March 22. Guests will enjoy access to Novo’s full modern Italian menu, wine selections from Enomatic, craft cocktails, and gelato artigianale. Ten percent of the evening’s proceeds will go to the Georgia chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
