Atlanta Dogwood Festival - Piedmont Park in the Spring

Festival Guide

For current festival dates, event listings, and the latest Creative Loafing guide, see Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is one of the city’s longest-running spring traditions, bringing art, music, food, and community programming to Piedmont Park each year.

Held annually in April, the festival draws large crowds for its artist market, performances, and park-centered atmosphere in the heart of Atlanta.

Festival Overview

Festival weekend typically includes a nationally recognized artist market, live music and performances, food vendors, family-friendly attractions, and special events such as the Mimosa 5K and VIP experiences.

Programming is spread throughout Piedmont Park, with multiple activity zones, performance areas, and vendor sections.

For full schedules and current event details, visit the official festival guide.

Festival History

The first Dogwood Festival took place on April 19, 1936. Walter Rich of Rich’s department store helped establish the event, which quickly became a major annual celebration in Atlanta.

Over time, the festival helped cement the dogwood tree as a symbol of the city, much like the cherry blossom is associated with Washington, D.C. The tree grows primarily in the Southeast and remains closely tied to Atlanta’s seasonal identity.
