NEWS BRIEF: Pedestrian-friendly downtown project abandoned
Vehicular traffic to remain
Plans to complete a pedestrian-oriented project on Peachtree Street downtown have been scrapped, according to city councilor Amir Farokhi. Barriers, signage, planters and other elements meant to open up street lanes for pedestrians, bicyclists, and e-scooter riders from Baker to Ellis streets are to be removed. The city’s planning department has yet to comment on the move, but sources indicate the Richard Bowers commercial real estate firm influenced the decision. planetizen
