NEWS BRIEF: Druid Hills High School students denounce unsafe, unsanitary conditions
Mold on the walls, holes in the ceiling, the threat of electrocution
Students at Druid Hills High School are complaining about mold on the walls, holes in the ceiling, the threat of electrocution and other calamities, and say the DeKalb County School District is doing nothing to remedy the situation. The 100-year-old building had been on a priority list for renovations until the board voted in February to remove it.
Students have now made an eight-minute video showing a one-way elevator, nonfunctioning bathrooms, crumbling infrastructure and widespread water damage. “We are not asking for too much,” one student said. “We are asking for the things we need to succeed in life. Safety is the number one thing.” The students plan to continue their protest at an April 18 school board meeting. 11alive.com
