NEWS BRIEF: Teenage ‘Kia Boyz’ stealing Korean cars in Atlanta
Take my car, please
Teenagers in Atlanta who steal Korean cars are part of a national trend, police say. Owners of Kia and Hyundai models are being ripped off by teens who post videos of their exploits on social media using the hashtag #kiaboyz, according to reports.
Georgia-based Kia America, part of the Hyundai Corporation, says the problem is related to the ease with which the cars can be broken into and driven away using basic tools. “Kia America is aware of the rise in vehicle thefts of a subset of trim level(s) in your area,” a spokesperson told CBS46, adding that newer models have better levels of security and are equipped with immobilizers. Kia customers with questions should contact 800-333-4542; for Hyundai owners, the number is 800-633-5151. Details: cbs46.com
