From the venue:

Rev. Dr. Qiyamah A. Rahman is a writer, educator, scholar and Unitarian Universalist minister. She has conducted research in South Africa, Ghana and the US, and has written and presented about ending gender-based violence.

Previously she worked as District Executive with the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Southern Region. She was the first woman of color to serve in that capacity. Qiyamah is conducting research on the Presence of Black Women in UUism and is editing the first anthology on Black UU Clergywomen.

Her interest in history of Black UU women grew out of her experiences as a young Black girl fighting to love herself and to find role models in a racist and sexist society. She endeavors to uncover and voice the personal stories of Black UU women and to claim a deeper understanding of human existence and the relationship to the sacred and divine.

Open Mic between readings.
