ABOUT THE SHOW
Carbon Leaf, a Virginia quintet, masterfully blends Americana, indie rock, folk, bluegrass, Celtic, and pop, using a diverse range of instruments. With 30 years of history, 20 recordings, and 3,500 live shows, they maintain their independent spirit and captivate a dedicated fanbase. In 2020, they announced a new album set for 2024.
Founded in 1993 as an indie college band, they gradually gained a regional following, releasing four self-produced albums between 1995 and 2000. In 2001, their song “The Boxer” garnered national attention. In 2002, they became the first unsigned act to win an American Music Award. Their 2004 single, “Life Less Ordinary,” led to extensive touring.
Between 2007 and 2009, they won songwriting awards, including the International Songwriting Competition’s top prize for “The War Was In Color.” In 2009, they embraced independence, founding Two-Car Studio and releasing six projects from 2010 to 2013. Core members include Barry Privett (lyrics, vocals), Terry Clark (guitars, vocals), Carter Gravatt (guitars, strings, vocals), Jon Markel (bass, vocals), and Jesse Humphrey (drums, vocals).
From 2014 to 2016, they re-recorded albums, regaining publishing rights. In 2017, they returned with the “Gathering Vol. 1” acoustic EP, celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2018. In 2019, they worked on “Gathering 2: The Hunting Ground” and “Carbon Leaf Cottage: Songs By The Sea,” a 27-song video project at an Atlantic Ocean beach house.
