From the venue:

Oglethorpe Day is a yearly tradition honoring the lasting legacy of the university’s namesake, General James Edward Oglethorpe. This year, Oglethorpe will welcome Michael Thurmond, CEO of Dekalb County, as the annual Oglethorpe Day speaker. The son of a Georgia sharecropper with nearly three decades in public service, he will share reflections and lessons from his newest book, James Oglethorpe, Father of Georgia: A Founder’s Journey from Slave Trader to Abolitionist. Following his remarks, Mr. Thurmond will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.
