Join us at a book launch celebration for Emory University professor and jazz pianist Gary Motley, whose new book, “Harmonic Development and Contrapuntal Techniques for the Jazz Pianist,” serves as the backdrop for the broader panel discussion on jazz music preservation and pedagogy.
The panel, moderated by WABE’s Lois Reitzes, starts at 5 pm in the Rose Library, Level 10 of Emory’s Woodruff Library. The book will be sold at the event; a book signing begins at 6 pm. A reception follows at 6:30 pm.
Other panelists include Motley Jazzmeia Horn, a vocalist, composer, educator, and multi-Grammy Award nominee; Dwight Andrews, a composer, musician, Emory professor of music theory and African American music and senior minister of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Atlanta; and Sam Yi, champion of Atlanta jazz for over 30 years and founder of Churchill Grounds, a longtime café/jazz music venue in Atlanta.
