From the venue:
Imagine writing a 10-minute opera in a competition for a $10,000 prize and a commission for a full one-act work! You have 96 hours to rehearse and stage your opera. Excitement? Pressure?
The public is invited to attend a competition showcase to enjoy and join in judging five new mini-operas as fresh creative teams present their brand-new works. A panel of industry experts could launch the careers of these composers and librettists who have come to Atlanta from across the country to compete. The works could be thought-provoking, sweet, sad, funny, or could be annoying, weird, or even boring! Take a chance at something new. Your vote counts too!
The 96-Hour Opera Festival is presented by The Atlanta Opera. Contestants are selected by application from self-identified members of under-recognized communities. The program’s goal is to amplify diversity and grow understanding by expanding opportunities and creative avenues.
