Mudcat album release at Waller’s

CRITIC'S PICK: Mudcat album release at Waller’s — Atlanta’s bona fide blues icon Daniel Peter Dudeck, better known as Mudcat, celebrates the release of his latest album, 'Goodwill and Salvation,' with a concert on Sat., Jul. 6, at Waller’s Coffee Shop. Renowned for his historically informed take on southern Piedmont blues, Mudcat leans into the tradition with keen sensibility and a gospel-inflected delivery all his own.
Joining Dudeck (vocal, guitar, piano) onstage at Waller’s and on the recording are regular bandmates Joe Caporaso (guitar), Daryl Dunn (saxophone), Bob Rice (drums) and David ‘Snave’ Evans (bass, backing vocal, flute, piano, organ), with Mandi Strachota (vocal on “Saved by Love”) potentially joining the live performance.
“The songs explore different expressions of love,” says Dudeck who wrote all five tunes on Goodwill and Salvation. “Suffering for lack of love; searching, by chance finding, love in desolation, in thrift stores; love as a savior; a misunderstood mother coyote’s love for her pups. Where does all that love go after you’re gone?” Blues hounds can also catch Mudcat & Co. during the week at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack and Blind Willie’s. — Doug DeLoach
