About this event
Event lasts 3 hours

Join the AUC Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective faculty and staff for a hands-on art restoration project.

The Atlanta Beltline spans roughly twelve miles of the 22-mile corridor on the west, south, and east sides of Atlanta, and Art on the Atlanta BeltLine strives to make art accessible to all. Beginning in 2010 as a way to encourage people to explore the Atlanta BeltLine (a former railroad corridor), improve neighborhood connectivity and access to cultural amenities; Art on the Beltline hosts free exhibitions and programming, making art accessible to numerous communities around the BeltLine. Participation in the exhibition also showcases the work of established and emerging artists from Atlanta and beyond.

The Beltline is home to numerous permanent and rotating sculptures, which remain outdoors year-round. Considering their outdoor location, these murals and sculptures are interacted with by thousands in addition to withstanding a variety of weather conditions. During this community service project, students will work with an Art Conservator to learn conservation techniques and apply them to some of Atlanta’s most treasured works of public art.

During this event, the group will learn how to apply conservation techniques to a work of public art and walk the Westside trail to view other works, some in need of conservation. The event will open with coffee & refreshments, and include an overview of the Art on the Atlanta Beltline program, plus an introduction to the field of public art and conservation. The conservator will overview and demonstrate the restoration techniques in advance of the project.

All participants will be asked to sign a participation waiver. Space is limited.

  • This event is for current Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spelman College students only*
