Angie Stone is a Grammy-nominated American R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul singer and actress. Known for her old-school soul influences and vocals reminiscent of Aretha Franklin, she began her career in the 1980s as a member of The Sequence, the first major female hip-hop group. Stone gained further recognition in the 1990s with the hip-hop/R&B trio Vertical Hold, releasing hits like “Seems You’re Much Too Busy.” She co-wrote songs for D’Angelo’s albums Brown Sugar and Voodoo and provided backing vocals. Her solo career launched with Black Diamond (1999), followed by albums like Mahogany Soul (2001) and Stone Love (2004), blending hip-hop and classic soul influences. Her hits include “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” both featuring notable soul samples. Stone also performed the theme song for the sitcom Girlfriends and has two children, including a son with neo-soul artist D’Angelo.
