Five For Fighting, City Winery — John Ondrasik fronts a string quartet, as he did on 2018s live album. This rare, stripped-down performance will feature a smattering of hits and strong deeper material from albums like 2000s America Town breakthrough. His soft rock style works well with the light classical backing to his Elton John-inflected piano-based songs. Recent music has leaned into politically charged singles (he hasn’t had a new album of originals since 2013) and Christmas tunes. One song praising Zelenskyy was even recorded with the Ukrainian Orchestra. A 2024 recording is critical of, and named, “Justin Trudeau.” Should be intriguing. — Hal Horowitz
