Thu., Jun. 19, Fri., Jun. 20 & Sat., Jun. 21

Seven ensembles, seven different cultures/traditions. Sounds like a worthy lineup for the Summer Global Music Festival at Spivey Hall. Celebrate the African diaspora in the Americas on Juneteenth with Apu Inka and Manga African Dance. The Hot Tropics are the focus for India’s Kuchipudi Dance troupe and Latitude Adjustment Steel on Jun. 20. On Jun. 21, Dance around the World with Atlanta Chinese Dance Company, Georgia Polka Connection (led by Atlanta Braves organist Matthew Kaminski), and Irish band Ah, Surely!

The festival also features arts, crafts and an “instrument petting zoo” where children can get up close and personal with a variety of musical instruments. – Doug DeLoach

From the venue:

APU INKA, comes from two Quechua words: APU = Gentleman and INKA = Monarch, King.  This ensemble gives it a more traditional meaning. Their ancestors called Apus the hills and mountains of the Andes. These are the "Sacred Mountain of the Inkas".  The artists of APU INKA have a vast background in interpreting and executing this music in the special way they play their instruments.

Andean music comes from the general area inhabited by Quechuas, Aymaras and other peoples who lived roughly in the area of the Inca Empire prior to European contact. It includes folklore music of parts of Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.

Includes arts & crafts and instrument petting zoos.
