JT Habersaat: Doing Time, The Earl — Sometimes hailed as a godfather of punk rock comedy, author JT Habersaat is plugging his third book ‘Doing Time: Comedians Talk Stand-Up’ while touring as the opening act for veteran “Bitter Buddha” comic Eddie Pepitone. The latter wrote the preface for the book, an oral history of the stand-up art form featuring extensive interviews with the likes of Patton Oswalt, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kids in the Hall, and Tom Rhodes. No Wave stalwart Lydia Lunch says ‘Doing Time’ is “Hilarious, heartbreaking, and mandatory reading.”
Pepitone, the headliner, began his career in New York City’s improv scene and became a regular guest on Conan O’Brien’s talk show; he subsequently appeared on TV in ‘Will & Grace,’ ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,’ ‘Last Comic Standing,’ and ‘Chappelle’s Show,’ to name a few. Known for ranting and raving about whatever comes to mind, Pepitone is considered a contemporary combo of Don Rickles and Jackie Gleason. — Kevin C. Madigan
