The Dirty Guv'nahs
CRITIC’S PICK:
Fri., Nov. 7
Dirty Guv’nahs, Kobanova, Variety Playhouse—Despite their UK-influenced name, Kentucky’s Dirty Guv’nahs are rooted in Southern rocking red clay earth. It’s impossible not to hear strong Black Crowes influences but the Guv’nahs, who disbanded in 2015 then reformed three years later, add soulful Skynyrd elements, and occasionally horns, to their sound. They also write terrific songs and aren’t shy to unplug for part of their set to balance out the more strident electric guitar-based rocking. They’ll feature songs from the recently released Promises, one of their finest and most diverse albums. Local dudes Kobanova, who released a live set recorded in Atlanta, are a fine choice to warm things up. — Hal Horowitz
