Ken Pomeroy, The EARL — Okie-based singer/songwriter Pomeroy (her full first name is McKennan) was only 15 in 2018 when she released her first EP, with songs far more mature and accomplished than you’d expect from someone that age. At 22, she has just delivered her first well-distributed album, Cruel Joke, which confirms her talents as a potent wordsmith and composer of soft, superbly crafted bittersweet melodies firmly in the folk/Americana vein. She has been playing live for nearly a decade and her subtle yet confident stage presence goes a long way to making Pomeroy’s shows entrancing, even hypnotic experiences. — Hal Horowitz
