Patty Griffin, Rickie Lee Jones, Variety Playhouse — This terrific double bill pairs two veteran singer/songwriting headliners that pre-date what has become the Americana genre. Both boast extensive careers and between them dozens of albums; Griffin in the more folk/country/introspective vein and Jones who alternates between soul/jazz, noir-ish music from the pre-rock Great American Songbook and more experimental territory that pushes boundaries. Griffin will likely perform at least some tunes from her new, subtle Crown of Roses release. Since this is a package tour, on-stage collaborations are possible. — Hal Horowitz
