Blake Whiten

CRITIC’S PICK:
Fri., Sept. 12
Blake Whiten, Vinyl — This young Americana singer who hails from the tiny town of Six Mile, South Carolina (which explains the title of his debut CD, Six Mile), has a wonderfully grainy voice which dovetails with his bluesy/rootsy/rural tunes. He attracted attention with a clutch of Tik Tok videos including his “Rolling Stone” (not the Muddy Waters song), which organically combines folk, country and blues and has garnered millions of streams. Unlike many artists who have risen out of social media, his approach is low-key and laid-back with none of the brash slickness that others who have become popular from that source exhibit. He’ll play some covers and will surely introduce his new original, “Made for Goodbyes,” which incorporates a larger, more radio-ready sound. — Hal Horowitz
