Where is the best and worst place to see fireworks in metro Atlanta?
Everyday answers to oddball questions
Heather: Stone Mountain. It has more bang factor, good atmosphere. The fireworks go well with the music. The worst is Gwinnett County, the Square in Lawrenceville. It’s so crowded in such a small area. The fireworks are OK but they try to choreograph it with a radio station. The timing and everything never quite hits the mark. It was Star 94 last year, so anybody trying to sync with Star 94, you’re going to have a dud of a show, bless their heart.
Mike: Best place is on the Square in Decatur. It’s a great show, the crowds are relaxed. It’s not a bunch of drunks everywhere getting crazy. Just a mellow environment. Lenox is absolutely the worst. It’s the exact opposite of the Decatur crowd. It’s Lenox! It’s the biggest! It’s in Buckhead! Go be hip and be seen there. It’s throngs of people, loud, rude, fuckin’ drunks. The streets are packed. What for? A fuckin’ mall in Buckhead! Then there are the lights from all those fuckin’ skyscrapers.
Andy: The worst is Six Flags because there’s 12,000 people and four fireworks. It’s like boom, boom, boom, boom, and that’s it! The best is being on top of Kennesaw Mountain. You can see different counties’ fireworks at one time. Get on top of the mountain [and] you can see the fireworks at Cartersville, Acworth, Marietta, Cobb County, everywhere. And the skyline of Atlanta is really cool. Get there early — it’s a one-mile walk up the mountain. Bring a cooler of beer. It’s illegal but we do it, anyway.
