Pizzas to try

(from our 100 Dishes List)

I Love Pepperoni Detroit-style Pizza at O4W Pizza

Available at O4W Pizza
Not familiar with Detroit-style pizza? Get thee to Duluth for O4W’s homage to Motor City, available in a few variations that all share the same basic construct: rectangular pan, thick but airy pie. The I Love Pepperoni version has loads to love — most notably the craggy, crunchy cheese and pepperoni crust that forms around the edges. A blend of havarti, cheddar and mozzarella gives the pizza (and crust) a sharp and deep flavor profile unlike any other pizza I or O the P. $24.50.

Margherita Pizza at Varuni Napoli

Available at Varuni Napoli
The simplicity of a margherita pizza demands the highest quality ingredients — and that’s where Varuni Napoli excels. Per owner Luca Varuni’s exacting Italian hand, the Neapolitan pizzeria’s version of this classic pie features dough made from imported doppio zero flour and filtered water. Stacked with fresh mozzarella, fragrant basil and locally sourced sweet tomatoes, it’s cooked in a beautiful custom-tiled Stefano Ferrara oven and served with love. $20.

New Haven clam pizza at Varasano’s

Available at Varasano’s Pizzeria - Buckhead
You can taste the years of research and pizza geekism in the simplicity of Varasano’s thin and crisp pizza crust. The complex flavor of the dough sets the stage for the briny clams, pungent fresh chopped garlic, generous dose of olive oil, and freshly chopped herbs to shine. A trip to New Haven has never been so easy. $14.95.

San Gennaro pizza at Antico Pizza Napoletana

Available at Antico Pizza Napoletana
Since its debut three and a half years ago, this Westside spot has become a shining example of Atlanta excellence. Although there are many pies to choose from, the San Gennaro is tough to beat. Chunks of fennel-laced sausage intermix with gooey mozzarella, and those beautiful sweet, round peppers take this charred pie from good to great. Bonus: Drizzle some nearby chili oil on top if you like it hot. $21.

Slice of Rehab Defax Pizza at Jack’s Pizza & Wings

Available at Jack’s Pizza & Wings
What do macaroni and cheese, homemade chili, hot dogs and sausage links have in common? They’re all things that can be found on a hulking slice of Rehab Defax pizza at Jack’s. To be honest, this particular ingredient combo makes no sense. But when you’re gobbling it up, tossing stray pieces of supple elbow macaroni that fell off back on top of the hot dogs where they belong and wiping chili sauce off your face, it becomes apparent that the most outrageous thing about this slice is how delicious it is. $6.

Tlayudas at Taqueria La Oaxaquena

Available at La Oaxaquena Taqueria
A crackly baked tortilla the size of a pizza is loaded with every Mexican topping staple imaginable. Smooth wedges of avocado, long, chewy threads of Mexican string cheese, and crumbled salty chorizo sausage all mingle together in messy harmony. The bold flavors are only amplified by the tactile pleasure that comes from cracking off a piece, piling on a little of what did and didn’t fall off, and shoving the bite into your mouth nacho-style. $10.99-$13.99.
