The struggle is real, y’all. Over the last several years, intown Atlanta’s landscape has undergone a serious facelift. Homegrown, mom-and-pop shops are being increasingly pushed aside by big-box retail developments going up in every corner of the city. It’s a timeless tale: Developers are drawn to an area because it has character. They build and displace the very essence of what made the area desirable in the first place. As city dwellers, we often define ourselves by the neighborhoods we call home, and the shops where we buy our clothes, shoes, etc. — how and where we spend our money. Material things are fleeting, and it is in the very nature of a city to grow, change, and roll with the punches. Be it A Cappella Books’ stacked shelves; Ella Guru’s mind-blowing stock of used vinyl; or Rag-O-Rama’s racks of secondhand swag, Consumer Culture celebrate the best in Atlanta retail. Apparently my blood type hates bananas and since I gave them up, I have virtually no menstrual cramps! Who knew? Your Vitamin Lady! I walked out with so much more than just banana talk, though. Then the freshly ground almond butter and coffee. Best cheese selection and definitely grab some of the shaved parm as a staple in the fridge. Before the produce goes bad, it’s prepared and served/sold. For lunch at the hot bar, the tofu, squash casserole and somosa are where it’s at. The bill is always a pleasant surprise being that they receive in bulk and package in house. Less waste and I hear there’s a garden on the roof and honey bees. If your only excuse to not like YDFM is the crowd, you clearly aren?t doing it right!

Splurge on the body scrub. There’s something special about being rolled around wet and naked on a table while an old Asian lady scrubs inches of your body that have definitely never been exfoliated. Believe it when they say one loses two-three pounds of dead skin in the process. It’s grossness followed by silky, baby-butt smoothness. The community area has heated marble floors, offers acupuncture, cupping, foot reflexology, and massages, although overpriced. You can sleep overnight in the sleep pods or take a nap in one of seven community saunas that are decked TF out. Perfect place to ride out a storm too. If there was a Jeju South, we’d spend the night there weekly.

Apparently my blood type hates bananas and since I gave them up, I have virtually no menstrual cramps! Who knew? Your Vitamin Lady! I walked out with so much more than just banana talk, though. Oh to my happy place. Start with a red rolling basket and hit the produce. I make strategic moves to zig and zag around the novice shoppers hitting the pineapple station where they cut it for me. Then the freshly ground almond butter and coffee. Best cheese selection and definitely grab some of the shaved parm as a staple in the fridge. Before the produce goes bad, it’s prepared and served/sold. For lunch at the hot bar, the tofu, squash casserole and somosa are where it’s at. The bill is always a pleasant surprise being that they receive in bulk and package in house. Less waste and I hear there’s a garden on the roof and honey bees. If your only excuse to not like YDFM is the crowd, you clearly aren?t doing it right!

Splurge on the body scrub. There’s something special about being rolled around wet and naked on a table while an old Asian lady scrubs inches of your body that have definitely never been exfoliated. Believe it when they say one loses two-three pounds of dead skin in the process. It’s grossness followed by silky, baby-butt smoothness. The community area has heated marble floors, offers acupuncture, cupping, foot reflexology, and massages, although overpriced. You can sleep overnight in the sleep pods or take a nap in one of seven community saunas that are decked TF out. Perfect place to ride out a storm too. If there was a Jeju South, we’d spend the night there weekly.
