Neighborhoods

Thursday March 26, 2015 04:00 am EDT
The neighborhood that Turner Field calls home is in for some major changes once Atlanta’s MLB team heads OTP in 2017. Summerhill, officially established after the Civil War, was first home to freed slaves and Jewish immigrants. A century later, white flight and stadium construction devastated the neighborhood. Evander Holyfield lived in Summerhill as a child. Today, Freewheel Farm, which sells... | more...

  • Welcome to my humble abode.

It's a proven fact that mansions suck: They suck up utilities. They suck up maintenance. They suck up cash. But that hasn't stopped nouveau riche rappers and boxers from swapping money pits like celebrity arm candy.

The latest boxer-turned-rapper-owned mansion could belong to none other than Ricky Rozay, aka Rick Ross "the Bawse," who may have recently...

Poor Evander. Last time the former heavyweight boxing champ was in the news, it was over the bank auctioning off his former 109-room Fayetteville home last November after he lost it to foreclosure in 2012.

So now, besides being in debt over unpaid back taxes, alimony and child-support, according to the New York Times, he's all over the Internet looking like neanderthal man this week...

There's something about Mike Tyson. Especially when he sits down on a couch and the cameras start rolling. Whether he's groveling on Oprah in front of his former ear-bite victim Evander Holyfield or telling Conan about the time he got Las Vegas...

Evander Holyfield is old -47 to be exact - but that doesn't mean he's going to - prevent further brain damage - retire anytime soon.

Following his 8th-round TKO defeat of fellow senior citizen Frans Botha, 41, this past Saturday night, it appears that Holyfield may never step out of the ring - willingly at least.

Holyfield - the only four-time heavyweight champion in boxing history...

In unveiling his new "Blueprint for Restoring Public Safety in Atlanta," state Sen. Kasim Reed brought out the big guns — in the form of Evander Holyfield's right and left arms. While bringing a well-known heavyweight boxing champ to a campaign press conference might initially sound like a publicity stunt, there was actually a relevant connection: Holyfield was a friend and mentor to...

James Toback’s Tyson gives audiences the chance to go a few rounds with Iron Mike. Fortunately, the documentary doesn’t require you to pull on boxing gloves and get into the ring with the former heavyweight champ. His jackhammer punches would no doubt reduce your physique to the consistency of a strawberry smoothie in seconds.

??Instead, Toback coaxes such candid, reflective conversations...

It's sad to even think that former heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield stood a chance of going to jail because he was behind on child support payments to the mother of one of his children.

But that's what Holyfield faced in Fayette County today before he paid $9,000 in back child support and promised to meet his other obligations — private school tuition, health insurance and paying...

The thing with young professional athletes — as ESPN's Rick Reilly notes in today's column — is that too many of them never consider that someday the money spigot is going to be shut off. They'll get old and retire. It's just a law of nature. How else do you explain Evander Holyfield building a palace in Fayette County that requires $1 million a year (in 1997 dollars) just for... | more...

It seems the "prosperity gospel" didn't perform as advertised for former heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield.

Uh oh. Evander Holyfield is already changing his story. Now, he says, he did take some type of "hormone medication" for fatigue he attributes to contracting hepatitis A.

Holyfield told the AJC's Jeff Schultz that he thinks he contracted hepatitis A by eating bad shrimp in 1995. He says he took the hormone medication briefly in 2004, but that it didn't work and he stopped taking it....

Then, on Dec. 2, a release party was held for Ludacris to celebrate his latest, The Red Light District. The partying powers that be refitted an empty warehouse...

Hit me! Evander Holyfield remains serious about his 2-year-old Real Deal record label. He's just signed R&B bands 4 Shades, a male vocal group, and Exhale, a similarly styled female act, hoping for that elusive knockout radio punch.
